Faringdon is a historic market community in the Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire, England. Within the historical borders of Berkshire, it is 18 miles (29 kilometres) south-west of Oxford, 10 miles (16 kilometres) north-west of Wantage as well as 12 miles (19 kilometres) east-north-east of Swindon. It is a big parish, its lowest parts extending to the River Thames in the north as well as its highest ground reaching the Ridgeway in the south. Faringdon was the westernmost town in Berkshire up until the 1974 limit adjustments transferred it to Oxfordshire. The civil church is officially Great Faringdon to differentiate it from Little Faringdon in West Oxfordshire. The 2011 Census provided a population of 7,121. On 1 February 2004, Faringdon was provided Fairtrade Town status, as the first Fairtrade Town in South East England. It is the base for Faringdon Enterprise Gateway, which helps and recommends organisations in rural west Oxfordshire.
