Faringdon
Faringdon is a historic market town in the Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire, England. Within the historical borders of Berkshire, it is 18 miles (29 kilometres) south-west of Oxford, 10 miles (16 kilometres) north-west of Wantage and 12 miles (19 kilometres) east-north-east of Swindon. It is a big parish, its lowest parts reaching the River Thames in the north as well as its highest possible ground reaching the Ridgeway in the south. Faringdon was the westernmost town in Berkshire till the 1974 limit adjustments transferred it to Oxfordshire. The civil parish is formally Wonderful Faringdon to identify it from Little Faringdon in West Oxfordshire. The 2011 Census offered a population of 7,121. On 1 February 2004, Faringdon was provided Fairtrade Town status, as the initial Fairtrade Town in South East England. It is the base for Faringdon Enterprise Gateway, which aids and advises organisations in rural west Oxfordshire.
