Langport is a small town and also civil parish in Somerset, England, 5 miles (8.0 kilometres) west of Somerton in the South Somerset area. The parish (which covers only part of the community) has a population of 1,081. Langport is contiguous with Huish Episcopi, a different parish that consists of much of the town's borders. During the winter the low-lying locations around Langport are in some cases flooded. The town drops within the Non-metropolitan district of South Somerset, which was based on 1 April 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, having previously belonged to Langport Rural District. The district council is in charge of local preparation and structure control, local roads, council housing, ecological wellness, markets and also fairs, decline collection and recycling, burial grounds as well as crematoria, recreation solutions, parks, and tourist.
