Damp Proofing in Bruton

Extensions such as garage conversions will often require extra damp proofing to be added through the conversion, as the existing garage will typically have a single skin design for walls and floors, which was not manufactured to conform to building regulations for habitable rooms. This damp proofing should be put into walls and floors. Additionally, the roofing of the garage conversion will require water proofing. The damp proofing for the floor of the garage conversion will usually be achieved by employing a damp proof membrane. This membrane is available in either solid or liquid form. The damp proof membrane will be placed down either on top of the pre-existing concrete floor, below the new floor, or as part of both, depending on whether the floor will be a solid or a floating floor. In some garages, the walls will have already been damp proofed, but this might have to be updated as part of the conversion to be able to meet current building regulations. The walls should be damp proofed in order to protect the brickwork from rotting slowly as moisture sets in. This is performed by either using damp proof membranes, waterproof rendering, or cavity insulation, depending on the type of walls already present in the garage. Damp proofing is an important part of the building regulations that the garage conversion will need to adhere to, therefore is it vital to make sure that your garage conversion employs suitable damp proofing methods.

Bruton

Bruton is a small town, electoral ward, and civil church in Somerset, England, on the River Brue along the A359 between Frome and Yeovil. It is 7 miles (11 km) south-east of Shepton Club, just south of Snakelake Hill and Coombe Hill, 10 miles (16 km) north-west of Gillingham and 12 miles (19 kilometres) south-west of Frome in South Somerset district. The community as well as ward have a population of 2,907. The parish consists of the districts of Wyke Champflower and Redlynch. Bruton has a gallery of products from its past from the Jurassic onwards. It includes a table used by the author John Steinbeck to create on during a six-month stay in Bruton. The River Brue has a history of flooding. In 1768 it destroyed a stone bridge. On 28 June 1917, 242.8 mm of rainfall fell in 24 hours, leaving a water mark on a pub 20 feet above the normal degree. In 1984 a protective dam was developed 1 km upstream from the town.
