Windermere
Windermere is a community and civil parish in the South Lakeland District of Cumbria, England. It has a population of 8,245 raising to 8,359 at the 2011 Demographics, and also exists about half a mile (1 kilometres) eastern of the lake, Windermere. Although the town Windermere does not touch the lake (it took the name of the lake when the train line was constructed in 1847 as well as the station was called "Windermere"), it has actually now expanded together with the older lakeside town of Bowness-on-Windermere, though both retain distinguishable community centres. Tourism is prominent in the community because of its proximity to the lake and also regional views. Boats from the piers in Bowness sail around the lake, lots of calling at Ambleside or at Lakeside where there is a recovered railway. Windermere Hotel opened at the same time as the railway. The civil church includes both towns, the village of Troutbeck Bridge to the north and numerous communities, including Storrs to the south as well as Heaning to the east. Belle Isle as well as part of the lake are also within its boundaries.
