Torrington
Great Torrington (commonly abbreviated to Torrington, though the towns of Little Torrington and Black Torrington are located in the exact same area) is a tiny market community in the north of Devon, England. Parts of it are sited above ground with high fall to the River Torridge listed below, with the lower-lying parts of the town prone to periodic flooding. Torrington is in the centre of Tarka Country, a landscape caught by Henry Williamson in his unique Tarka the Otter in 1927. Great Torrington has one of one of the most active volunteering communities in the United Kingdom. In July 2019, Great Torrington was reported to be the healthiest place to reside in Britain. Scientists from the University of Liverpool discovered that the location had reduced degrees of contamination, good access to green space as well as health services, along with few retail electrical outlets.
