Torrington
Great Torrington (frequently abbreviated to Torrington, though the towns of Little Torrington and Black Torrington are situated in the exact same area) is a small market community in the north of Devon, England. Parts of it are sited above ground with high fall to the River Torridge listed below, with the lower-lying parts of the community prone to occasional flooding. Torrington remains in the centre of Tarka Country, a landscape caught by Henry Williamson in his unique Tarka the Otter in 1927. Great Torrington has among one of the most active volunteering areas in the UK. In July 2019, Great Torrington was reported to be the healthiest place to reside in Britain. Scientists from the University of Liverpool discovered that the area had reduced levels of contamination, excellent accessibility to green area and health services, together with few retail outlets.
