Southwark
The London Borough of Southwark in south London, England forms part of Inner London and is connected by bridges across the River Thames to the City of London. It was established in 1965 when 3 smaller council locations amalgamated under the London Government Act 1963. This included the former area of the Metropolitan Borough of Southwark, the Metropolitan Borough of Camberwell, and also the Metropolitan Borough of Bermondsey. It is controlled by Southwark London Borough Council.
The borough covers a total area of about 11.14 square miles. To the south are the London Boroughs of Bromley and Croydon. As outlined by population estimates created during 2014, Southwark includes a permanent population of about 302538 individuals.
The borough is home to a number of cultural, historical and notable attractions. The Shard, Tate Modern, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, and Borough Market which are the largest of the venues in Southwark to draw domestic and international tourism. Dulwich is home to the Dulwich Picture Gallery along with the Imperial War Museum in Elephant and Castle.
