Fencing in Melksham

Interested in getting fencing installed in Melksham? By using the Quotatis service it's possible to look at up to four fence companies in order to get the very best deal available for the job you want.

Fencing is very important for all homes whether it be the front or back garden. From maintenance work to a total installation of new fencing, employing a respected company is highly advised to get the very best price available.

Fences work as a border to our homes and with an installation you'll add protection to your house preventing easy access to your back garden. Back garden fences are typically close to six feet high, which right away makes it more challenging for intruders to gain access.

Decorative fences or wooden picket fencing will often be best suited for the front garden, where security isn't as vital. Instead, you're more likely to pick a front garden fence particularly for decoration in order to add something different.

For whatever sort of fencing you're looking to have installed, make sure you use our free and no obligation service to get the best deal available in Melksham.

Melksham

Melksham is a town of medium size on the River Avon in the county of Wiltshire. It is found 10 miles east of the city of Bath, 6 miles south of Chippenham, 6 miles west of Devizes and 12 miles north of Warminster, following the A350 national route. According to the 2001 UK census, Melksham has a population of 20000 inhabitants, that includes sizeable environs such as Bowerhill and Berryfield. Consequently, the town is Wiltshire's 5th largest town by population, following Swindon, Salisbury, Chippenham and Trowbridge. Melksham Forest is included in the civil parish as a residential area of the town, which was previously a different settlement 0.8 miles to the northeast. Relative to the town's average road size, the quickest street is accordingly referred to as 'Short Street', which is located at the top of Melksham Forest. Melksham is well-now for the Melksham Spa Company, formed in 1815 by a collection of 'respectable gentlemen', featuring names such as Methuen, Long and others, all of whom had benefited significantly from the now diminishing textile market. Their vision was to establish a spa, emerging after failed efforts to locate coal suddenly revealed the existence of two springs. The spa incorporated 6 three-storeyed, semi-detached accommodation houses forming a crescent, a pump room and hot and cold private baths. Simultaneously, a parliamentary act was passed to 'improve the pleasing town of Melksham' through paving and enhancing footways, as well as cleaning, lighting and watching the streets. The ongoing popularity of the waters at Bath, however, impeded the success of the spa venture. Melksham is currently home to a wide array of leisure centres and events. For all your home upgrades, make sure to make use of trustworthy contractors in Melksham to make certain of quality.

    FAQs

Do I need planning permission for fences?

Not if they are under 1 metre high if next to a road or 2 metres high elsewhere. It’s always recommended to check with your neighbours and the local authority if you are unsure. Other restrictions may apply, for example if a fence might impact driver visibility on nearby roads.

Fence ownership: who owns that garden fence?

When it comes to fence ownership and responsibility, this is often a subject of dispute between neighbours and understandably so. Owning a fence comes with a number of responsibilities such as arranging and paying for the maintenance and more. Therefore, if you’re not yet sure who owns the garden fence, then you’d probably want to have that sorted to make sure your property stays protected at all times. In this post, we’re going to give you an insight into some of the rules guiding fence ownership in order to help you make informed decisions. Let’s take a look!

There’s no rule of thumb on whether you own the fence on the right hand or the left hand side of your property. Therefore, if you’ve heard any “rules that states otherwise, you can fling that out the window because not everyone will own the left hand side to their fence. The first way to determine who owns the garden fence or which side of the fence you’re responsible for is simply by looking. Although this is not guaranteed or a definite way to determine ownership, it can go a long way to give you a good idea. As you would have expected, fences are most likely built on the land that belongs to the boundary’s owner with the further edge of the fence making the actual boundary. As a result, you can determine a fence ownership simply by identifying where the frames are.

Also, you can determine fence ownership using the title deeds for an official and accurate answer. A copy should be given alongside your paperwork which is received when purchasing your house.

Can I make my neighbour repair their fence?

For a lot of home and property owners in the UK, a common courtesy is being neighbourly and several people find it relatively easy to get along with the folks next door. However, for most individuals, where the major dispute arises most times is due to boundaries which can lead to impasse that may only be resolved through legal action. But since nobody wants that, when boundary issues become more than just passing a comment about the current condition of the fence, you may want to clue yourself up on what to do to get the desired action. If attempts have been made to talk to your neighbour to no avail, there are a couple of things you can consider to make “them next door repair their fence. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight on these things to help you make informed decisions. Let’s take a look!

Firstly, it should be stated that if the fence poses an immediate danger then the usual legalities doesn’t apply. In this scenario, you may need to report to the local council who’ll take the necessary action on your behalf.

    • Offer assistance. Since the cost of repairing a fence isn’t the cheapest thing to do, a lot of people might not be too eager to carry out this project and any friendly suggestion to do so may not be taken kindly. So if you feel that the this may be the issue, you can try offering some assistance to lessen the financial burden on your neighbour.
    • Put up your own fence. If all attempts fail, you can consider erecting your own fence. However, this must be on your own property and as close to the boundary as possible.
How to tell which fence is yours?

If there’s a fence dividing yours and your neighbour’s properties that needs maintaining or replacing, you’ll want to know who owns it. Start by checking your deeds to see if there’s an existing boundary agreement. If there isn’t, have a chat with them to see if you can come to an arrangement yourselves.
