Badminton (population 271) is a village and also civil parish in Gloucestershire, England. It consists of Great Badminton and Little Badminton. In 1612 Edward Somerset, fourth Earl of Worcester, purchased from Nicholas Boteler his manors of Great and Little Badminton, called Madmintune in the Domesday Publication while one century earlier the name Badimyncgtun was recorded, held by that family given that 1275. The town houses the Battle each other of Beaufort's residence, Badminton Home, which has been the major seat of the Somerset family members since the late 17th century. Badminton House also gives its name to the sport of badminton. The town is famous for its steed trials, which happen in early May each year in the premises of Badminton House.
