Bellshill
Bellshill is a town in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It's located ten miles south east of Glasgow city centre and 37 miles to the west of Edinburgh, in addition to being close to other towns which include Motherwell, Hamilton and Coatbridge. Since 1996, it has been a part of the Greater Glasgow metropolitan area. With a population of roughly 20,000, a study by the Halifax Building Society suggested that in the spring of 2005, the town was the UK's property hot spot, witnessing a rise in home prices by 46 per cent. This resulted in the average house price as being £105,698. It's suggested that the town dates from the 17th century, which initially contained a row of quarry workers' homes belonging to Mr. Bell, the proprietor of a stone quarry in the south of the town. The improvement of Bellshill, nonetheless, largely occurred soon after the quarry shutting at the start of the 19th century. Development work has continued throughout the twentieth century. Recently, the Streetscape Project, a project which aims to achieve the town's renovation and to modernise the the town centre, took place between 2007 and 2010. This developed a one way system around the main street and made the area more friendly for pedestrians. Since the middle of the 1980s, the town has been recognised specifically for creating respected and influential popular music, with bands such as the Soup Dragons, BMX Bandits and Teenage Fanclub emerging from the town. A Channel 4 TV series, 'Sounds of the Suburbs', celebrated the music of the area, commonly known as the 'Bellshill Sound' or the 'Bellshill Beat'.
