Mauchline
Mauchline is a community and also civil parish in East Ayrshire, Scotland. In the 2001 census Mauchline had a recorded population of 4,105. The community lies by the Glasgow as well as South Western Railway line, 8 miles (13 km) east south east of Kilmarnock and also 11 miles (18 km) north east of Ayr. It is situated on a mild incline about 1 mile (1.6 km)) from the River Ayr, which flows via the south of the parish of Mauchline. In previous days Loch Brown was about 1 mile west of the community, but was drained when the railway line from Kilmarnock was constructed. Bruntwood Loch, near the old laird's home of that name, was once a crucial site for waterfowl, but drained pipes for agriculture in the 18th century.
