Alloa

Alloa is a town found within Clackmannanshire, set in the Central Lowlands of Scotland. It is located on the north bank of the Firth of Forth close to the foot of the Ochil Hills, 5.5 miles (8.9 kilometres) east of Stirling and 7.9 miles (12.7 km) north of Falkirk. The name potentially means 'rock plain'. At the time of the 2001 census, Alloa had a permanent population of 18,989. Improvements were made to the harbour during the eighteenth century, resulting in Alloa thriving as a river port through which the merchandise produced in Glasgow were exported to continental Europe. During that time, and until the 1950s, the primary industry for the north and east of the town was coal mining. Wool has also normally been plentiful locally and in the early years of the nineteenth century, John Paton set up a small yarn-spinning company in the town, later establishing Kilncraigs Mill. His firm merged with J. & J. Baldwin of Halifax in 1924 to become the world-famous Paton & Baldwins Ltd. Alloa was renowned for its weaving and glassmaking industries throughout the 19th and into the early 20th century. Alloa has long been linked to the brewing sector, with no less than nine major breweries producing ales at its height. It was also home to a distillery. Following the closure of the distillery, barrel production continues to flourish in the town. The town boasts a thriving shopping centre, with nationally recognised supermarket chains on the site of the old distillery, near to the railway station. For all your property upgrades, make certain that you use trustworthy experts in Alloa to ensure that you get the best quality work.

How to tile an uneven wall?

How To Tile An Uneven Wall

Do you know it’s almost impossible to find a wall in any home that’s fully flat and vertical? Just like floors, walls also have areas of imperfection or where they’re a bit uneven. When it comes to tiling, these are the problematic areas in which you must work around and identify how to solve to achieve a perfect finish. If not, you may as well just have the tiles sticking out and making room for moisture to creep in affecting the longevity of your project.

There a variety of options to tackle an uneven wall surface and one of the best is plastering. To make sure the surface of your wall is even, a great step would be to plaster it. Plastering of a wall can be a very simple task, however, if you lack proper training or experience, you might want to consider getting a skilled professional to handle the project for you. Making sure the surface of your wall is even is a crucial step in the tile installation process and can be quite tricky on your first trial.

Uneven wall is usually as a result of two major factors - sagging of the wall over time and the wall’s surface is not completely flat. To solve this, you’d have to detach the boards. Then, attach a new board and re-skim the walls to create a new flat and even surface you can work on. For small imperfections and dips, simply use an adhesive cement to fill in the gaps in the plaster. This approach is perfect for holes and ding with a depth that’s not more than half a centimetre. When the cement is totally dry, you can sand it to achieve a flat finish. Happy Tiling!
