The town of Cleckheaton is within the Metropolitan borough of Kirklees, in the English county of West Yorkshire. Traditionally a part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, the town is located south of Bradford, east of Brighouse, west of Batley and southwest of Leeds. It sits at the centre of the Spen Valley, and was a central town inside the previous borough of Spenborough.
