Welshpool
Welshpool is a town as well as community in Wales, historically in the county of Montgomeryshire, however presently administered as part of the unitary authority of Powys. The town is positioned 4 miles (6.4 kilometres) from the Wales-- England border as well as low-lying on the River Severn; its Welsh language name Y Trallwng indicates "the marshy or sinking land". Welshpool is the 4th largest community in Powys. In English it was at first called Pool yet its name was transformed to Welshpool in 1835 to differentiate it from the English community of Poole. It has a population of 6,664 (United Kingdom Census 2011), consists of much Georgian architecture and is just north of Powis Castle. The local economic climate is mostly based upon agriculture as well as regional industry. The Smithfield Livestock Market is the largest one-day lamb market in Europe, whilst the community's industrial estates are house to numerous different types of small industry. Because of the community's tiny size and population the tourist attraction of high street stores is limited, suggesting many of the locals are required to shop in adjoining towns like Newtown and Shrewsbury.
