Ambleside
Ambleside is a community in Cumbria, in North West England. Historically in Westmorland, it is positioned at the head of Windermere, England's biggest all-natural lake. The town is within the Lake District National Forest. Ambleside is carried out by South Lakeland District Council as well as forms part of the Lakes civil church but from 1894 to 1935 it was a separate urban district council. Ferries (still known as "steamers", although now diesel powered) run to Bowness-on-Windermere as well as Shore providing fine sights of the lake as well as bordering mountains. Ambleside is a base for treking, alpinism and hill cycling. It has a variety of hotels, bed and breakfast, clubs and dining establishments along with shops. Specifically, there are a variety of stores offering tools for pedestrians and mountain climbers in the town. Ambleside is a preferred starting factor for the Fairfield horseshoe, a hillwalking ridge hike. Ambleside is likewise house to the head office of Brathay Exploration Group, a youth charity based simply beyond Clappersgate on the road to Hawkshead. The cd CSI: Ambleside, by Birkenhead-based band Half Male Half Biscuit, is called after the town.
