Saxmundham is a little market town in Suffolk, England, embeded in the valley of the River Fromus regarding 18 miles (29 km) north-east of Ipswich as well as 5 miles (8.0 km) west of the coast at Sizewell. The community is bypassed by the A12. It is served by Saxmundham train station on the East Suffolk Line. Saxmundham Town Council comes under the new East Suffolk District. The town's name purportedly stems from the Old English "Seizmond's Residence". The earliest recorded mention of Saxmundham remains in the Domesday Book of 1086 which mentions three churches.
