Guisborough
Guisborough is a market town and civil parish in the English county of North Yorkshire. It is within a unitary authority of Redcar and Cleveland, and in the Trees Valley region of the North East of England. Mainly for ritualistic purposes, it is in the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire. Held every Thursday and Saturday, together with on Tuesdays with the presence of a couple of stalls, Guisborough market has had a prominent place in the history of the town. Initially offering mainly cattle and livestock, the market progressively progressed into a more regular market for such products as vegetables and fruit, clothing and flower stalls. It is held from the early morning to late afternoon on the cobbles that line Westgate, the main shopping street. As a result of its spot near the ironstone mines of the North York Moors, the town also had a share in the prosperity of the Industrial Revolution. According to the 2011 Census, the permanent population of the town is around 17777. Substantial property development came about through the 1960s and 1970s with the growth of the chemical sector at Wilton and the steel industry at Redcar. Without any sizeable companies in the town, the town has come to be a commuter town for Middlesbrough, with a number of inhabitants working in the chemical plants scattered around Teeside. Guisborough has a King George's Field in memory of King George V, and the town's football team, Guisborough Town F.C., plays on the King George V Ground. There is also a playing field including a play area and a skate park, and a swimming pool from has been located in the park ever since 1968.
