Appleby-in-Westmorland is a market town and civil parish in the Eden area, in the management county of Cumbria, in North West England. The parish had a population of 3,048 in 2011. It hinges on a loop of the River Eden in the historical region of Westmorland, of which it was the county town. Its name was merely Appleby up until the city government adjustments of 1974.
