Torrington
Great Torrington (usually abbreviated to Torrington, though the towns of Little Torrington and Black Torrington are positioned in the same region) is a little market town in the north of Devon, England. Parts of it are sited on high ground with steep drops down to the River Torridge listed below, with the lower-lying parts of the town vulnerable to occasional flooding. Torrington remains in the centre of Tarka Nation, a landscape caught by Henry Williamson in his novel Tarka the Otter in 1927. Great Torrington has among one of the most energetic volunteering neighborhoods in the United Kingdom. In July 2019, Great Torrington was reported to be the healthiest place to live in Britain. Scientists from the University of Liverpool found that the area had reduced degrees of air pollution, great accessibility to green room and health services, in addition to few retail outlets.
