Faringdon
Faringdon is a historic market town in the Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire, England. Within the historical borders of Berkshire, it is 18 miles (29 kilometres) south-west of Oxford, 10 miles (16 kilometres) north-west of Wantage and 12 miles (19 kilometres) east-north-east of Swindon. It is a large parish, its lowest parts including the River Thames in the north and its highest ground reaching the Ridgeway in the south. Faringdon was the westernmost community in Berkshire until the 1974 border modifications moved it to Oxfordshire. The civil church is officially Fantastic Faringdon to distinguish it from Little Faringdon in West Oxfordshire. The 2011 Census offered a population of 7,121. On 1 February 2004, Faringdon was offered Fairtrade Town status, as the first Fairtrade Town in South East England. It is the base for Faringdon Enterprise Gateway, which aids and encourages businesses in rural west Oxfordshire.
