Hackney

The London Borough of Hackney is a north east London Borough inside Inner London in the UK. Southern and eastern parts of the borough are popularly, but unofficially, regarded as being a part of east London, with northern and western locations deemed to belong to north London. The London Plan, issued by the Greater London Authority, assigns whole boroughs to sub-regions for statutory monitoring, engagement and resource allocation purposes. The latest 2011 iteration of this plan assigns Hackney to the 'East' sub-region, while the 2008 and 2004 versions assigned the borough to 'North' and 'East' sub-regions respectively.

Hackney is bounded by Islington to the west, Haringey to the north, Waltham Forest towards the north-east, Newham towards the east, Tower Hamlets towards the south-east and also the City of London towards the south-west. It covers a total area of 7.36 square miles. Based on population estimates from 2014, the borough features a permanent population of around 263150 individuals. A great deal of Hackney retains an inner-city character, but in such places as Dalston large housing estates have been joined by newly developed gated communities. In South Hackney, near Victoria Park, terraced Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian housing still survives.

To the north of the borough are Upper Clapton and Lower Clapton, Stamford Hill and Stoke Newington. Light industries within the area surrounding the River Lea employ over 3000 people. Some of the area was employed for the 2012 Summer Olympics.

FAQs

How do I know when I need more fuel delivering for my LPG boiler?

Your LPG storage tank should have a gauge that shows you how much fuel it has in it. Most LPG suppliers suggest that you arrange a fuel delivery when the level in your tank gets down to about 20%. Make regular checks, particularly in the winter when you will use more, so you know when levels are low.

Where can I put an LPG storage tank?

Your LPG storage tank will need to go outside your property, possibly underground if you have limited space. There are planning rules that restrict where you can put your tank, especially if your property is listed or on designated land. Take a look at our planning permission article to find out more.

How do I get fuel for my LPG boiler?

If you choose to install an LPG boiler, you’ll need to find an LPG supplier. They’ll deliver fuel to you every time your storage tank runs low. You can even rent a storage tank from them if you don’t want to buy one. Make sure you know who your local suppliers are and where they are based.

What’s LPG?

LPG stands for liquid petroleum gas. It’s a by-product of refined crude oil. When it’s put under pressure, LPG turns into a liquid. It’s usually stored in this form. LPG is used as fuel for things like BBQs and camping stoves, as well as central heating.
