Bankside

Bankside is a district in the London Borough of Southwark. It is positioned around the southern bank of the River Thames, 2.4 km east of Charing Cross. It's a part of the business improvement district generally known as Better Bankside.

Bankside is the riverside of the former liberties of the Clink and Paris Garden. For the duration of the Elizabethan period, these regions were outside the City of London’s jurisdiction so they became the homes of bear baiting pits and playhouses, which includes the Rose, the Swan and the Globe Theatre. There has been a lot of regeneration in current years, becoming well-liked with tourists. The skyline of Bankside is accentuated by the former Bankside Power Station, that is now the Tate Modern.

The Bankside 1/2/3 complex on Southwark Street is the most significant new development inside the district. The 3 buildings house about 5,000 employees. Bankside 1 is also referred to as the Blue Fin Building and is partially occupied by IPC Media, while Bankside Two and Three are occupied by the Omnicom Group Ltd.

From 2010, numerous development schemes have transformed Blackfriars Road from the bridge towards the south at St. George’s Circus and new buildings stand in place of post-World War II offices. These buildings are residential and hotel accommodation along its length, specially at the junction with Stamford Street exactly where plenty of high rises have been constructed.

FAQs

What’s LPG?

LPG stands for liquid petroleum gas. It’s a by-product of refined crude oil. When it’s put under pressure, LPG turns into a liquid. It’s usually stored in this form. LPG is used as fuel for things like BBQs and camping stoves, as well as central heating.

How do I know when I need more fuel delivering for my LPG boiler?

Your LPG storage tank should have a gauge that shows you how much fuel it has in it. Most LPG suppliers suggest that you arrange a fuel delivery when the level in your tank gets down to about 20%. Make regular checks, particularly in the winter when you will use more, so you know when levels are low.

How do I get fuel for my LPG boiler?

If you choose to install an LPG boiler, you’ll need to find an LPG supplier. They’ll deliver fuel to you every time your storage tank runs low. You can even rent a storage tank from them if you don’t want to buy one. Make sure you know who your local suppliers are and where they are based.

Where can I put an LPG storage tank?

Your LPG storage tank will need to go outside your property, possibly underground if you have limited space. There are planning rules that restrict where you can put your tank, especially if your property is listed or on designated land. Take a look at our planning permission article to find out more.
