Faringdon
Faringdon is a historic market community in the Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire, England. Within the historical borders of Berkshire, it is 18 miles (29 km) south-west of Oxford, 10 miles (16 kilometres) north-west of Wantage and 12 miles (19 kilometres) east-north-east of Swindon. It is a huge parish, its lowest parts reaching the River Thames in the north and its highest ground getting to the Ridgeway in the south. Faringdon was the western community in Berkshire up until the 1974 boundary modifications transferred it to Oxfordshire. The civil church is formally Excellent Faringdon to distinguish it from Little Faringdon in West Oxfordshire. The 2011 Census gave a population of 7,121. On 1 February 2004, Faringdon was given Fairtrade Town status, as the first Fairtrade Town in South East England. It is the base for Faringdon Enterprise Gateway, which helps and also suggests organisations in rural west Oxfordshire.
