Ambleside
Ambleside is a community in Cumbria, in North West England. Historically in Westmorland, it is positioned ahead of Windermere, England's largest all-natural lake. The town is within the Lake District National Forest. Ambleside is provided by South Lakeland District Council and forms part of the Lakes civil church yet from 1894 to 1935 it was a different city area council. Ferryboats (still known as "cleaners", although now diesel powered) run to Bowness-on-Windermere and also Lakeside providing fine views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Ambleside is a base for treking, mountaineering and mountain cycling. It has a variety of resorts, guest houses, bars and also dining establishments as well as shops. In particular, there are a number of shops marketing devices for walkers as well as mountain climbers in the town. Ambleside is a popular beginning factor for the Fairfield horseshoe, a hillwalking ridge walk.
