Muir Of Ord
Muir of Ord is a village in the Highlands of Scotland. It is located near the western limit of the Black Isle, regarding 9 miles (14 kilometres) west of the city of Inverness and 5 1/2 miles (9 km) south of Dingwall. The village has a population of 2,690 and sits 35 metres (115 ft) above sea level. Called Tarradale until 1862, traditionally access to the village was restricted by the all-natural challenges of the River Beauly and the River Conon. This altered in 1814 with the building and construction of the Conon Bridge. Livestock motorists used the new paths to carry livestock and also markets were established in 1820 near to where the town currently lies. In 1835 whisky distilling operations were legally provided in the village as well as by 1885 the Mill of Ord created 80,000 imperial gallons (360,000 l) each year. The town expanded extensively in the 19th century due to the establishment of the distillery and also goods sectors.
