Carrbridge
Carrbridge is a village in Badenoch and Strathspey in the Scottish Highlands. It lies off the A9 on the A938, west of Skye of Curr, southeast of Tomatin, near Bogroy. It has the oldest stone bridge in the Highlands as well as the neighboring ancient want forest contains the Landmark Forest Adventure Park. Carrbridge is about 10 kilometres (6 mi) north of Aviemore as well as develops a gateway to the Cairngorms National Forest. It was a very early centre for skiing in Scotland. In the 2001 census the town had a population of 708 individuals, with the bulk used in tourism. Until the 1980s bypass was created, the A9 ran straight through the village. Carrbridge is served by Carrbridge train station on the Highland Main Line. Regional dispute still surges regarding the name Carrbridge itself, with some liking to see it hyphenated to Carr-bridge. Words "Carr" has nothing to do with motorised transportation yet is originated from the Old Norse word for boggy area.
