Lydbury North
Lydbury North is a town and a geographically large civil parish in south Shropshire, England.The populace of the Civil Parish at the 2011 census was 695. The parish is locally called Lydbury and there is no settlement called Lydbury South. It lies at grid reference SO352859. It is located in the south west edge of the region, close to the villages of Clun and Bishop's Castle. The B4385 road goes through the village, as does the Jack Mytton Way. To the west is the village and also parish of Colebatch. There is a part-time post office, area shop, institution as well as church right here. Also there is a hostelry called the Powis Arms. According to the Institute for Name Studies the name is Old English in derivation as well as means 'Fortification on the * Hlyde (= noisy stream)', possibly a very early name for the River Kemp. The town lies between 155m and 165m over sea level. Whilst the land to the south is flat, to the north it increases steeply. Priors Holt, Priors Holt Hillside and also Churchmoor go to the northeastern extremities of the church, the church of which in Lydbury North, St Michael and All Angels, consists of a small Catholic church.
