Gorebridge
Gorebridge is a previous mining village in Midlothian, Scotland. The village obtains its name from the bridge across the River Gore, a tributary of the South Esk. It was the residence of Scotland's first gunpowder mill, at the Gore Water, that began operating in 1794. Gorebridge has an annual Gala Day which constantly occurs on the third Saturday in June. This is similar to a town fair, with rides and video games. The gala day has a custom of selecting a Town King and also Queen from the primary schools. Gorebridge has 4 primary schools, Gorebridge Primary, Stobhill Main, St Andrews RC Primary as well as Gore Glen Main. Greenhall High school used to serve the community yet closed down in 1994. Regional kids now attend nearby Newbattle Community High School, Lasswade Senior High School or St David's RC Senior high school. Gorebridge's regional football team is juniors Arniston Rangers that play house video games at Newbyres Park. On 6 September 2015 Gorebridge saw the return of the Waverley Line with a new station improved the site of the initial terminal. This provides rail accessibility to the Borders and Edinburgh Waverley railway terminal. In the Gore Glen there is a superficial cave, called "The King's Cave". According to legend a burglar made use of to take livestock as well as conceal in this close-by cave. It is not, as some assume, called after Robert the Bruce, that was said to have hidden here after loss by the English.
