Ventnor
Ventnor is a seaside resort and also civil parish developed in the Victorian age on the south-east coast of the Isle of Wight, England, eleven miles (18 kilometres) from Newport. It is located south of St Boniface Down, and improved high inclines leading down to the sea. The greater component is described as Upper Ventnor (formally Lowtherville); the reduced component, where most services are located, is referred to as Ventnor. Ventnor is occasionally required to consist of the close-by and older settlements of St Lawrence and also Bonchurch, which are covered by its community council. The population of the parish in 2016 was about 5,800. Ventnor came to be exceptionally fashionable as both a wellness and also holiday resort in the late 19th century, described as the 'English Mediterranean' as well as 'Mayfair by the Sea'. Clinical advances throughout the early twentieth century reduced its role as a health resort and also, like various other British seaside resorts, its summer holiday profession suffered the transforming nature of travel during the last part of that century. Its relatively protected location under the hilly chalk downland creates a microclimate with more bright days and less frosts than the rest of the island. This permits numerous types of subtropical plant to prosper; Ventnor Botanic Garden is especially significant. Ventnor maintains a strongly Victorian personality, has an energetic arts scene, and is restoring appeal as a place to see.
