Bingley
Bingley is a market town within the metropolitan borough of the City of Bradford found in West Yorkshire, England. The town is on the River Aire as well as the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, and is situated in Airedale to the south of Ilkley Moor. In recent years, the population has dropped, having a population of 19,884 in 2001 and decreasing to roughly 18,294 in the 2011 Census. The definition of the town's name is translated as 'Bing's Clearing' and originates from the Saxon language. The town's original settlement served the ford across the River Aire at the narrowest point of the Aire Valley, and Ireland Bridge was created in 1986 with the intention of changing the ford. Much of the older history of the town is still present in the town, like the Bingley Grammar School, founded in the sixteenth century, which is believed to be 1 of the oldest schools in the country.
