Torrington
Great Torrington (usually abbreviated to Torrington, though the villages of Little Torrington and also Black Torrington are positioned in the same area) is a small market community in the north of Devon, England. Parts of it are sited above ground with high drops down to the River Torridge listed below, with the lower-lying parts of the community prone to occasional flooding. Torrington is in the centre of Tarka Country, a landscape recorded by Henry Williamson in his unique Tarka the Otter in 1927. Great Torrington has among one of the most active volunteering communities in the United Kingdom. In July 2019, Great Torrington was reported to be the healthiest area to stay in Britain. Scientists from the College of Liverpool discovered that the area had low levels of air pollution, good accessibility to green room and health services, together with few retail outlets.
