Kinlochleven
Kinlochleven is a town located in Lochaber, in the Scottish Highlands and also lies at the eastern end of Loch Leven. To the north exist the Mamores ridge; to the south lie the hills flanking Glen Coe. The town was created from two previously separate small communities - Kinlochmore to the north of the River Leven in Inverness-shire as well as Kinlochbeg to the south of the Leven in Argyll - complying with the building of an aluminium smelter and associated housing for its employees. The handling plant was powered by a hydroelectric scheme positioned in the mountains over, as well as made Kinlochleven the very first village in the world to have every home linked to electrical power, coining the phrase "The Electric Village". In 1991, the village (according to annual census returns) had simply over 1000 occupants in some 420 houses. Today it is a significant visitor destination and also centre for hill quests.
