East Cowes
East Cowes is a town and civil parish to the north of the Isle of Wight, on the east bank of the River Medina beside its neighbour on the west bank, Cowes. Both towns are attached by the Cowes Drifting Bridge, a chain ferryboat run by the Isle of Wight Council. East Cowes is the site of Norris Castle, as well as Osborne House, the former summer season home of Queen Victoria and also Prince Albert. The Prince had a significant impact on the style of the location, for instance on the building of St Mildred's Church in close-by Whippingham, which includes distinct turrets copying those found on a German castle.
