March

March is a Fenland market town and civil parish in the Isle of Ely region of Cambridgeshire, England. March was the county town of the Isle of Ely, which was a separate administrative county between 1889 and 1965. It is now the administrative centre of Fenland District Council. Just like various Fenland towns, March was originally an island surrounded by marshes. It occupied the second largest 'island' in the Great Level. As the land drained, the town grew and prospered as a trading and religious centre. It was also a small port before transforming into, in more recent times, a market town and an administrative and train centre. March is situated on the banks of the old course of the navigable River Nene, and today largely used by pleasure boats. The town's development occurred most rapidly when it turned into an important railway centre. It had a major junction in between the Great Eastern Railway and Great Northern Railway at March railway station, allowing for ease of access to and from London, Cambridge and Ely. In particular, March Royal Mail sorting office, in the past a full post office dates from 1936, is uncommon in that it is one of a few post offices that display the royal cypher from the short reign of Edward VIII. There are lots of shopping options for the 19042 homeowners of March. March Town Centre is the home of a large range of independent and commercial chain stores. A retail park opened in 2008, extending the ability to go shopping in superstores and supermarkets. Spread across the town are also multiple eateries, bars and public houses. For all of your home upgrades, make sure to make use of respected specialists in March to make certain of quality.

✓ Stop the weeds. You’ll have to apply an anti-weed membrane so you won’t have stubborn weeds growing through your finished driveway.

If you go for the bags there may be a need of wheelbarrow to help move the gravel around, however with a tipped loose you can have the gravel chippings tipped directly on to the driveway.

✓ Make use of the hose. It’s possible that when your gravel arrives, it’ll be be dusty. Make use of an hose to run over the driveway to bring out the true colours of your driveway.

It’s normal to think that having a new gravel laid is a herculean task but when the necessary tools and materials are within your reach then it’s a fair simple task for the competent DIYer. So if you’re about to lay your new gravel driveway option of your home and wondering how deep to dig the driveway, then you’ve come to the right place. However, in this guide, we offer some handy tips on the appropriate depth of a gravel driveway in order to put you on the right path from the start. So let’s take a closer look!

Normally, it’s required to lay a a 10 mm aggregate on a depth which should be within the range of 30 mm to 40 mm. However in the case of driveway, this structure must be at least 50mm deep. As a result of this requirement, you’ll require to dig a minimum depth of about 50 mm to 60mm on your driveway. If you’re using a larger aggregate, it’s going to settle and bond together more easily than the smaller alternatives. Therefore, the depth of your driveway will mostly be determined by the size of the aggregate you opt for as well as how you intend to use the surface.

How to clear snow from a gravel driveway?

Clearing snow from a gravel driveway can be tricky – you need to remove the snow without taking the gravel with it.

If the snow’s quite light and dry, try using a leaf blower. You might find that this is enough to get the snow out the way. If it isn’t, start by using a shovel. Use this to clear the top layer of snow off your driveway, leaving about an inch behind. Then, use a rake to remove most of the remaining snow. This won’t take away 100% of the snow or leave all of your gravel in place, but it’s still pretty effective. You can then lay salt to melt away the rest of the snow and stop it turning into ice.

How do I stop weeds growing in my gravel driveway?

Weeds growing on your gravel can look unsightly, so it’s worth taking steps to stop them sprouting up.

When you lay your driveway, make sure you use a weed proof membrane. This will help to stop most growth, although it won’t totally prevent weeds occurring. For any other growth, dig the weed out or use a weed killer.
