March

March is a Fenland market town and civil parish in the Isle of Ely region of Cambridgeshire, England. March was the county town of the Isle of Ely, which was a separate administrative county in between 1889 and 1965. It is now the administrative centre of Fenland District Council. Much like lots of Fenland towns, March was once an island surrounded by marshes. It occupied the second largest 'island' in the Great Level. As the land drained, the town established and prospered as a trading and religious centre. It was also a small port prior to transforming into, in more recent times, a market town and an administrative and train centre. March is set on the banks of the old course of the navigable River Nene, and today typically used by pleasure boats. The town's growth occurred most swiftly when it came to be an important railway centre. It had a main junction in between the Great Eastern Railway and Great Northern Railway at March train station, allowing for ease of access to and from London, Cambridge and Ely. In particular, March Royal Mail sorting office, formerly a full post office dates from 1936, is uncommon in that it is one of a couple of post offices that display the royal cypher from the brief reign of Edward VIII. There are many shopping opportunities for the 19042 residents of March. March Town Centre is the home of a large variety of independent and commercial chain stores. A retail park opened in 2008, extending the capability to shop in superstores and grocery stores. Scattered across the town are also many eateries, bars and pubs. For all of your home upgrades, make sure to make use of credible contractors in March to make certain of quality.

    FAQs

    How to concrete a driveway?

Whether you’re going to hire a professional to create your concrete driveway or are trying DIY, it’s a good idea to know how to create one.

Firstly, make sure you’ve thought carefully about the size and location of your driveway, and mark it out with pegs and string. Then, you’ll need to dig out the area. Ideally this should be about 20cm deep – 10cm for the subbase and 10cm for the concrete layer. Make sure this is level and compress both the soil and the subbase with a compactor if needed.

Then, you’ll need to assemble the formwork for your driveway. These are pegged out planks of wood or metal that support the edges of your driveway while it’s setting. If your driveway is more than 4 metres long, you’ll also need to create control joints to allow the concrete to settle without cracking.

Once you’ve done this, you’re ready to pour on the concrete. You’ll need to level it and ideally give it some texture so the surface has some grip. Cover your concrete driveway with plastic sheeting when you’re happy with the finish and leave it to set. Make sure you don’t walk or drive on it until it’s completely set – this usually takes 3-10 days. Then, you can remove the framework and enjoy your new driveway.

How to resurface a painted concrete patio?

A big benefit to concrete is that you can paint it, making it easy to customise and coordinate with your outside area. However, it’s easy to resurface it too, so if you change your mind or inherit a patio that’s the wrong colour, you don’t need to worry.

Start by cleaning the surface with water and a brush. If you come up against any tough stains, you might need to use a detergent and water mix to remove them. Then you can prepare your resurfacer.

Generally, it’s best to apply resurfacer to a moist surface, although make sure you follow the instructions on the specific product you buy. You’ll need to mix the resurfacer with water, then pour and spread it on with a trowel or brush. You might need to apply multiple coats, and can add texture if you want to make the surface more grippy.

Ensure you protect any expansion joints in your patio with duct tape or weather stripping to stop the resurfacer from filling them in. You can also add a colour agent to your resurfacer before you apply it if you’d like to customise the colour.

How to seal cracks in a concrete driveway?

Cracks on your concrete driveway can look scruffy and unsightly. They can also lead to further damage, as moisture can get into the cracks and make them worse. So, it’s important to seal the cracks as soon as you can.

Start by cleaning the area and removing any loose materials. This will help any new materials you introduce to bond with your existing driveway. Then use concrete caulking or sealer to fill in the cracks. You’ll need to use a trowel to push the filler firmly into the crack.

Once you’ve filled in the crack, make sure you consult the product instructions and leave it for the amount of time specified before using your concrete driveway again.

Do I need to seal my concrete driveway?

Sealing your driveway isn’t 100% necessary, but it is recommended. It will help keep your driveway in good condition and increase how long it lasts. Sealer should be applied approximately once every 2 years, or when your driveway begins to show signs of deterioration.
