Damp Proofing in Maesteg

Extensions such as garage conversions will usually require supplementary damp proofing to be installed as part of conversion, as the existing garage routinely has a single skin design for walls and floors, which was not built to be in accordance with building regulations for habitable rooms. This damp proofing will have to be put into walls and floors. In addition, the roof of the garage conversion will need water proofing. The damp proofing of the floor of the garage conversion will often be performed by utilising a damp proof membrane. This membrane is available in either solid or liquid form. The damp proof membrane will be put down either on top of the existing concrete floor, below the new floor, or as part of both, depending on if the floor will be a solid or a floating floor. In some garages, the walls have been damp proofed, but this may have to be improved as part of the conversion to be able to comply with current building regulations. The walls should be damp proofed to be able to safeguard the brickwork from rotting gradually as moisture sets in. This can be performed by either utilising damp proof membranes, waterproof rendering, or cavity insulation, depending on the type of walls that are already present in the garage. Damp proofing is an integral part of the building regulations that the garage conversion should comply with, therefore is it important to make sure that your garage conversion makes use of appropriate damp proofing methods.

Maesteg

Maesteg is a town and community in the ceremonial county of Mid Gamorgan and in Bridgend County Borough, Wales. It is found at the north end of the Llynfi Valley, close to the border with Neath Port Talbot. Just like the rest of Wales, the English and Welsh languages make up the town's official languages. Despite the fact that a significant percentage of residents are native English speakers, there is a modest section of the community that speak Welsh. Of the 20612 residents recorded in the 2011 Census, 11 percent of the town's population speak Welsh. There are significant contrasts between age groups, with 27.9 per cent of 3 to 15 year olds speaking Welsh, 8.6 percent of 16 to 64 year olds, and the lowest proportion being amongst the over 65s at 5.3 percent. The opening of ironworks in the 1820s and 1830s stimulated the expansion of the town. Between 1890 and 1925, Maesteg held a global status as a producer of Admiralty-grade steam coal, high quality cooking coal and the leading house coal in South Wales. By the early 1920s, 7000 miners operated in the town. With the decrease of the coal market and the closure of the last pit in 1985, the town is now characterised as being more residential and domiciliary in nature, mainly for the Port Talbot, Bridgend and Cardiff journey to work areas. Started in 1881, Maesteg Market continues to be a well-attended market, which is located on the ground floor of Maesteg Town Hall and a large range of products are available. The town is additionally acknowledged for its strong music and singing heritage, being home to various choirs and bands. For all your home upgrades, make certain to make use of reliable contractors in Maesteg to make certain of quality.
