Newbiggin-by-the-sea
Newbiggin-by-the-Sea is a small town and civil parish in Northumberland, England, on the North Sea shore. As soon as an important port for shipping grain and a coal mining community, it is still a tiny fishing port taking advantage of conventional coble watercrafts. Fishing has always been related to Newbiggin, although later on lots of residents were used in coal mining. By the Victorian era, Newbiggin was Northumberland's much-loved seaside town, drawing in numerous site visitors on a daily basis in the summer season. In 1869, there were 142 cobles (angling watercrafts) in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea. Newbiggin Colliery was sunk in 1908. The colliery enclosed 1967, but at its height in 1940 1,400 guys were used there. The former Newbiggin Colliery Band is now the Jayess Newbiggin Brass Band, named for its head of state as well as former member, cornet tale James Guard. To day, there are 72 active business based in Newbiggin.
