Barnehurst
Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London inside the London Borough of Bexley. It's north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It's separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established following the sale of land in 1881 to make the Bexleyheath loop line in between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name derives from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a nearby home and was vice-chairman of the railway company. Currently, the railway station runs trains between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, by way of Lewisham and Eltham to the west and Dartford railway station towards the east. There are 12 trains an hour throughout the week; on Sundays, there are four trains an hour. The railway station was openedto encourage the development of houses. The Barnehurst Estate was constructed in 1926 which housed a lot of people.
In addition to the railway station, Barnehurst is served by 5 buses, 1 of which goes to the well-liked Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are hardly any buying or leisure opportunities within the town, so people generally visit surrounding areas making use of public transport links or the primary roads.
Barnehurst is residence for the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.
