Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London in the London Borough of Bexley. It is north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It's separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established following the sale of land in 1881 to make the Bexleyheath loop line between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name hails from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a local property and was vice-chairman of the railway company. Nowadays, the railway station runs trains in between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, through Lewisham and Eltham to the west and Dartford railway station to the east. There are 12 trains per hour during the week; on Sundays, there are 4 trains each hour. The railway station was openedto encourage the creation of houses. The Barnehurst Estate was constructed in 1926 which housed lots of people.
In addition to the railway station, Barnehurst is served by five buses, 1 of which goes to the well-liked Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are hardly any buying or leisure opportunities inside the town, so people frequently go to surrounding regions utilising public transport links or the main roads.
Barnehurst is dwelling for the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.
