Bingley
Bingley is a market town in the metropolitan borough of the City of Bradford found in West Yorkshire, England. The town is on the River Aire and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, and is situated in Airedale to the south of Ilkley Moor. In recent years, the population has decreased, having a population of approximately 19,884 in 2001 and decreasing to about 18,294 as per the 2011 Census. The meaning of the town's name is often thought to be 'Bing's Clearing' and originates from the Saxon language. The town's initial settlement served the ford across the River Aire at the narrowest point of the Aire Valley, and Ireland Bridge was made in 1986 with the intention of changing the ford. A lot of the older history of the town is still present in the town, such as the Bingley Grammar School, founded during the sixteenth century, which is thought to be one of the oldest schools in the country.
