Lairg
Lairg is a town and parish in Sutherland, Scotland. It has a population of 891 and goes to the south-eastern end of Loch Shin. Lairg is unusual in the northern Highlands, if not special, in being a large settlement that is out the coast. Among the factors that Lairg is somewhat larger than various other non-coastal Highland towns is its main place within the county of Sutherland. Having 4 roadways which fulfill in the village, it used to be called "The Crossroads of the North". In the 19th century, it was provided with a train station, on what is currently the Far North Line. This development indicates that the north-west of Sutherland is currently much easier to get to. (The Far North Line links Inverness in the south with Thurso and also Wick in the north.).
