Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London within the London Borough of Bexley. It's north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It's separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established soon after the sale of land in 1881 to create the Bexleyheath loop line in between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name originates from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a nearby property and was vice-chairman of the railway company. Now, the railway station runs trains between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, by means of Lewisham and Eltham to the west and Dartford railway station to the east. There are 12 trains an hour in the course of the week; on Sundays, there are 4 trains every hour. The railway station was openedto encourage the development of houses. The Barnehurst Estate was built in 1926 which housed many individuals.
In addition to the railway station, Barnehurst is served by 5 buses, one of which goes to the popular Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are not many shopping or leisure opportunities in the town, so individuals generally visit surrounding regions making use of public transport links or the main roads.
Barnehurst is home to the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.
