Fencing in Newhaven

Are you considering getting fencing installed in Newhaven? Using the Quotatis service you can do a comparison of up to four fencing installers in order to get the best deal available for the task you need.

Fencing is very important for all households whether it be the front or back garden. From restoration work to a complete installation of new fencing, working with a reputable contractor is highly advised to get the very best price available.

Fencing act as a perimeter to our homes and with an installation you'll increase security to your property preventing easy access to your back garden. Back garden fences are typically around six feet high, which straight away makes it more difficult for intruders to gain entry.

Decorative fences or wooden picket fencing are often most appropriate for the front garden, where security isn't as vital. Instead, you're more likely to select a front garden fence particularly for design and also to add something different.

For whatever style of fencing you're looking to have installed, ensure that you make use of our free and no obligation service to get the best deal available in Newhaven.

Newhaven

Newhaven is a town in the Lewes District of East Sussex in England. It is found at the mouth of the River Ouse, on the English Channel coast, and is a ferryboat port for services to France. It covers a total area of roughly 2.75 square miles. The main part of the town lies on the west side of the river, and there is also a suburb at Denton and Mount Pleasant on the slopes of the Downs to the east. Industrial areas lay on the east side of the river, as do all three of the railway stations which serve Newhaven; Newhaven Town, Newhaven Harbour and the now redundant Newhaven Marine. There are more than 360 businesses in the town. Recent housing development has occurred at the West Quay, Harbour Heights and August Fields. According to the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent population of approximately 12232 individuals. Within this population, 59 percent are of working age, 22 per cent are age 15 and under, and 19 percent are of retirement age. The main landmark in the town is the Newhaven Fort. The new waste incinerator is a notable landmark, the chimney being visible from the sea together with from Firle Beacon and parts of Seaford. The parish includes part of the Brighton to Newhaven Cliffs Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The cliffs are specifically of geological interest, holding many Santonian and Campanian fossils. The SSSI listing features flora and fauna biological interest too. The open land surrounding Newhaven to the west, north and east belongs to the South Downs National Park, though the town itself is excluded from the confines. For all of your home developments, be sure to find reliable contractors in Newhaven to make certain of quality.

    FAQs

    How much does fencing cost?

The most basic fencing starts at about £27 per panel. But if you want something that’s more decorative and better quality, expect to budget £30-£40 per panel. If you choose to get a professional to help you put up your fencing, they’ll probably be able to get your panels at a cheaper rate.

Do I need planning permission for fences?

Not if they are under 1 metre high if next to a road or 2 metres high elsewhere. It’s always recommended to check with your neighbours and the local authority if you are unsure. Other restrictions may apply, for example if a fence might impact driver visibility on nearby roads.

How close can I build to my neighbour’s fence?

As a home or property owner, you’re generally allowed to build next to your neighbour’s fence as long as it’s on your own side of the property. With that in mind, there are certain laws that regulate how close a fence can be built to buildings on the same lot or neighbouring lots. In addition, there are also local bylaws that provide limitations on the placements as well as height of fences so as to address safety hazards. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight into how close you can build to your neighbour. Let’s take a look!

In general, if the fence is in your boundary then you’re allowed to build a 2-metre high brick or wooden fence or wall. However, this may differ depending on your location in the UK. As a result, you may want to reach out to your municipality’s building department in order to determine what these rules and limitations are in your area. In the events whereby there are no such restrictions but you’re still concerned, you can try informing your neighbour what your concerns are. However, if they’re not receptive there are some steps you can take to ensure your plans go as smoothly as possible. These steps include the following:

    • Ensure to leave sufficient space for both the posts and footings
    • Stagger your fence posts in order to make sure you’re not digging your neighbour’s
    • Consider using concrete posts as they’re much stronger and will last a lot longer
    • Use kickers or plinths for raised gardens and flower beds
    • Make use of concrete plinths as they won’t rot over time like a wooden fence.
How to tell which fence is yours?

If there’s a fence dividing yours and your neighbour’s properties that needs maintaining or replacing, you’ll want to know who owns it. Start by checking your deeds to see if there’s an existing boundary agreement. If there isn’t, have a chat with them to see if you can come to an arrangement yourselves.
