Fencing in Laurencekirk

Interested in having fencing installed in Laurencekirk? Using the Quotatis service you're able to contrast as many as 4 fencing installers to get the top deal available for the work you need.

Fencing is very important for all homes whether it is the front or back garden. From restoration work to a full installation of new fencing, using a reliable contractor is highly encouraged to get the best price available.

Fences work as a perimeter to our properties and with an installation you'll add security to your home and stop easy access to the back garden. Back garden fences are usually close to six feet high, which instantly makes it more difficult for intruders to gain access.

Decorative fences or wooden picket fencing are usually most suitable for the front garden, where security isn't as important. Instead, you're more likely to opt for a front garden fence specifically for design and to add something different.

For whatever sort of fencing you're wanting to have installed, make sure to make use of our free and no obligation service to get the best deal available in Laurencekirk.

It will also differ among regions, so it's best to get a few quotes to see what the best price is in your area.

Laurencekirk

Laurencekirk is a town in the historical region of Kincardineshire, Scotland, just off the A90 Dundee to Aberdeen highway, which bypassed it in 1985. It is carried out as part of Aberdeenshire. It is the largest settlement in the Howe o' the Mearns location and houses the local senior high school; Mearns Academy, which was granted the Charter Mark in 2003. Its old name was Conveth, an anglification of the Gaelic Coinmheadh, describing an obligation to supply totally free food and also board to passing soldiers. Laurencekirk remains in the valley between capital of Garvock and the Cairn O' Mount. The well-known spots of the Johnston Tower can be seen on the top of the Garvock. Laurencekirk was, in the past, recognized for making snuff boxes with a special kind of airtight joint (referred to as a "Laurencekirk joint") designed by James Sandy. Laurencekirk Golf Club (now inoperative) first showed up in the early 1900s. The club closed at the time of WW2. Lewis Grassic Gibbon composed much about The Mearns and also the surrounding area in his publication Sunset Song. A homage centre can be visited at Arbuthnott a few miles from Laurencekirk. Fred Urquhart serviced the land at Laurencekirk in the Second World War, and also his narratives take advantage of his observations of country life below.

    FAQs

How close can I build to my neighbour’s fence?

As a home or property owner, you’re generally allowed to build next to your neighbour’s fence as long as it’s on your own side of the property. With that in mind, there are certain laws that regulate how close a fence can be built to buildings on the same lot or neighbouring lots. In addition, there are also local bylaws that provide limitations on the placements as well as height of fences so as to address safety hazards. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight into how close you can build to your neighbour. Let’s take a look!

In general, if the fence is in your boundary then you’re allowed to build a 2-metre high brick or wooden fence or wall. However, this may differ depending on your location in the UK. As a result, you may want to reach out to your municipality’s building department in order to determine what these rules and limitations are in your area. In the events whereby there are no such restrictions but you’re still concerned, you can try informing your neighbour what your concerns are. However, if they’re not receptive there are some steps you can take to ensure your plans go as smoothly as possible. These steps include the following:

    • Ensure to leave sufficient space for both the posts and footings
    • Stagger your fence posts in order to make sure you’re not digging your neighbour’s
    • Consider using concrete posts as they’re much stronger and will last a lot longer
    • Use kickers or plinths for raised gardens and flower beds
    • Make use of concrete plinths as they won’t rot over time like a wooden fence.
What types of garden fencing are available?

There are quite a few different types of garden fencing that are readily available, so you’ll have plenty to choose from. If you’ve got a strict budget, waney edge panel fencing is a good option. It’s made up of horizontal wood strips and is generally the cheapest type of fencing. Another good option is closed feather-edge panels. These are a really strong type of fence, made up of concrete posts and panels of vertical strips of wood. You can also get more decorative types of fencing with combinations of vertical and horizontal wood strips.

Can I make my neighbour repair their fence?

For a lot of home and property owners in the UK, a common courtesy is being neighbourly and several people find it relatively easy to get along with the folks next door. However, for most individuals, where the major dispute arises most times is due to boundaries which can lead to impasse that may only be resolved through legal action. But since nobody wants that, when boundary issues become more than just passing a comment about the current condition of the fence, you may want to clue yourself up on what to do to get the desired action. If attempts have been made to talk to your neighbour to no avail, there are a couple of things you can consider to make “them next door repair their fence. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight on these things to help you make informed decisions. Let’s take a look!

Firstly, it should be stated that if the fence poses an immediate danger then the usual legalities doesn’t apply. In this scenario, you may need to report to the local council who’ll take the necessary action on your behalf.

    • Offer assistance. Since the cost of repairing a fence isn’t the cheapest thing to do, a lot of people might not be too eager to carry out this project and any friendly suggestion to do so may not be taken kindly. So if you feel that the this may be the issue, you can try offering some assistance to lessen the financial burden on your neighbour.
    • Put up your own fence. If all attempts fail, you can consider erecting your own fence. However, this must be on your own property and as close to the boundary as possible.
What do I need to do to maintain my fence?

Properly erected fences shouldn’t require a great deal of maintenance. Any rotting boards can usually be replaced without replacing the whole panel. Timber fencing should be stained every 2-3 years. General maintenance is something you can carry out yourself, however, larger works may need a qualified professional to come in.
