Fencing in Dolgellau

Interested in having fencing installed in Dolgellau? By using the Quotatis service it's possible to compare and contrast up to four fence contractors in order to get the top deal available for the job you need.

Fencing is extremely important for all households no matter whether it's the front or back garden. From maintenance work to a full installation of new fencing, employing a reputable contractor is highly encouraged to get the best price available.

Fencing act as a perimeter to our households and with an installation you'll add more protection to your house and prevent easy access to your back garden. Back garden fences are usually around 6 feet high, which straight away makes it harder for intruders to gain access.

Decorative fencing or wooden picket fencing are usually most appropriate for the front garden, where security isn't as paramount. Instead, you're more likely to pick a front garden fence particularly for decoration in order to add something different.

For whatever sort of fencing you're looking to have installed, be sure to use our free and no obligation service to get the best deal available in Dolgellau.

Dolgellau

Dolgellau is a market community and also community in Gwynedd, north-west Wales, lying on the River Wnion, a tributary of the River Mawddach. It is traditionally the county town of the historical region of Merionethshire (Welsh: Meirionnydd, Sir Feirionnydd), which lost its management standing when Gwynedd was developed in 1974. Dolgellau is the primary base for climbers of Cadair Idris. Although very tiny, it is the 2nd biggest settlement in Southern Gwynedd after Tywyn. The area consists of Penmaenpool. The name of the town is of unpredictable beginning, although dôl is Welsh for "meadow" or "dale", and also (y) gelli (soft mutation of celli) implies "grove" or "spinney", and also prevails in your area in names for farms in sheltered nooks. This would certainly seem to be one of the most likely derivation, providing the translation "Grove Meadow". It has likewise been suggested that the name can stem from words cell, indicating "cell", equating therefore as "Meadow of [monks'] cells", however this appears much less likely considering the history of the name. The earliest taped punctuation (from 1253, in the Study of Merioneth) is "Dolkelew", although a punctuation "Dolgethley" dates from 1285. From after that till the 19th century, the majority of punctuations were along the lines of "Dôlgelly" "Dolgelley", "Dolgelly" or "Dolgelli" (Owain Glyndwr's scribe composed "Dolguelli"). Thomas Pennant used the type "Dolgelleu" in his Tours of Wales, and also this was the type used in the Church Registers in 1723, although it never had much money. In 1825 the Registers had "Dolgellau", which form Robert Vaughan of Hengwrt adopted in 1836. While this form may stem from an incorrect etymology, it came to be standard in Welsh and is now the typical form in both Welsh as well as English. It was taken on as the official name by the local rural area council in 1958. Quickly prior to the closure of the town's railway station it showed indications reviewing variously Dolgelly, Dolgelley and also Dolgellau.

    FAQs

Can I attach something to my neighbour’s fence?

There are a number of reasons why disputes can arise between neighbours – all of which can be quite frustrating and challenging. In some cases, this can even cause serious friction and lead to an all-out war. When it comes to the topic of fencing, one of the most common questions that arises is whether or not you can attach something to your neighbour’s fence. If you’re having the same concern, then you’ve come to the right place. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight into this to help you make informed decisions moving forward. Let’s take a look!

The short and simple answer to this question is no, you can’t attach anything to your neighbour’s fence. If your neighbour owns the fence and you’ve not obtained any permission to do so, then you’re not allowed to attach anything to the fence. Otherwise, you can get into serious trouble with your neighbour as well as the law. If you want to attach something or have the wall on your side painted using another colour, then there’s the need to get a permission from the owner. And while doing so, make sure you’re provided with a written permission so as to avoid problems later in the future.

Another question that mostly arises is what if your neighbour declines your request, is there anything you can do about it? Well, the answer to this is no, there’s nothing you can do about it unless you’re able to convince your neighbour otherwise. And you should know starting a neighbour war or being spiteful can only make matters worse for you.

Do I need to tell my neighbours if I’m going to replace my fence?

It’s a good idea to talk to your neighbours before you start any work to avoid confusion along the way. But if the fence is definitely your responsibility and on your property, there’s no legal obligation to notify them. It’s also a myth that you need to erect a fence with the flush side without posts facing your neighbour’s property.

How close can I build to my neighbour’s fence?

As a home or property owner, you’re generally allowed to build next to your neighbour’s fence as long as it’s on your own side of the property. With that in mind, there are certain laws that regulate how close a fence can be built to buildings on the same lot or neighbouring lots. In addition, there are also local bylaws that provide limitations on the placements as well as height of fences so as to address safety hazards. In this post, we’re going to give you a good insight into how close you can build to your neighbour. Let’s take a look!

In general, if the fence is in your boundary then you’re allowed to build a 2-metre high brick or wooden fence or wall. However, this may differ depending on your location in the UK. As a result, you may want to reach out to your municipality’s building department in order to determine what these rules and limitations are in your area. In the events whereby there are no such restrictions but you’re still concerned, you can try informing your neighbour what your concerns are. However, if they’re not receptive there are some steps you can take to ensure your plans go as smoothly as possible. These steps include the following:

    • Ensure to leave sufficient space for both the posts and footings
    • Stagger your fence posts in order to make sure you’re not digging your neighbour’s
    • Consider using concrete posts as they’re much stronger and will last a lot longer
    • Use kickers or plinths for raised gardens and flower beds
    • Make use of concrete plinths as they won’t rot over time like a wooden fence.
How to tell which fence is yours?

If there’s a fence dividing yours and your neighbour’s properties that needs maintaining or replacing, you’ll want to know who owns it. Start by checking your deeds to see if there’s an existing boundary agreement. If there isn’t, have a chat with them to see if you can come to an arrangement yourselves.
