Barmouth
Barmouth is a town as well as neighborhood in the region of Gwynedd, north-western Wales, resting on the estuary of the River Mawddach and Cardigan Bay. Found in the Historic county of Merionethshire, the Welsh type of the name is stemmed from "Aber" (estuary) and the river's name, "Mawddach". The English form of the name is a corruption of the earlier Welsh type 'Abermawdd'. The community is served by Barmouth railway station. The town expanded around the shipbuilding market, as well as a lot more just recently as a seaside hotel. Remarkable structures consist of the middle ages Ty Gwyn tower house, the 19th century Ty Crwn roundhouse jail and St John's Church. William Wordsworth, a visitor to Barmouth in the 19th century, defined it hence: "With a fine sea view in front, the mountains behind, the marvelous estuary running eight miles [13 km] inland, as well as Cadair Idris within compass of a day's walk, Barmouth can constantly hold its own against any rival." Dinas Oleu (Citadel of Light), which lies east of the community on the adjacent hill, was the very first tract of land to be donated to the National Trust.
