Highbridge is a little, former market community positioned on the edge of the Somerset Degrees near the mouth of the River Brue. It remains in the Area of Somerset, and is about 20 miles (32.2 kilometres) north east of Taunton, the county town of Somerset. It is no longer a market community, the market website is now a housing estate. Highbridge remains in the District of Sedgemoor, being situated roughly 7 miles (11.3 km) north of Bridgwater, the area's administrative centre. Highbridge very closely neighbours Burnham-on-Sea, developing part of the combined parish of Burnham-on-Sea and also Highbridge and shares a community council with the hotel community. In the 2001 census the population was 5,986. In the 2011 census the population of the community was consisted of in the ward of Highbridge as well as Burnham Marine, which completed 7,555.
