Ambleside
Ambleside is a community in Cumbria, in North West England. Historically in Westmorland, it is positioned ahead of Windermere, England's biggest natural lake. The town is within the Lake District National Forest. Ambleside is provided by South Lakeland District Council and types part of the Lakes civil parish however from 1894 to 1935 it was a separate city area council. Ferryboats (still called "steamers", although now diesel powered) run to Bowness-on-Windermere and Lakeside using great sights of the lake and bordering mountains. Ambleside is a base for treking, alpinism as well as hill cycling. It has a number of hotels, bed and breakfast, clubs and dining establishments as well as shops. In particular, there are a number of stores marketing devices for walkers and mountain climbers in the community. Ambleside is a popular beginning point for the Fairfield horseshoe, a hillwalking ridge hike.
