Isle Of Benbecula
Benbecula is an island of the Outer Hebrides, in the Atlantic Ocean off the west coast of Scotland. In the 2011 census it had a generally resident population of 1,283, with a sizable percent of Roman Catholics. It develops part of the area administered by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar or the Western Isles Council. The island has to do with 12 kilometres from west to eastern as well as a similar range from north to south. It lies in between the islands of North Uist as well as South Uist; it is attached to both by roadway causeways. Travel to any one of the various other Hebridean islands, or to the British landmass, is by air or sea. Benbecula Airport on the island has everyday trips to Glasgow, Stornoway and also Barra. A straight service to Inverness was introduced in 2006 however stopped in May 2007. There are no direct ferry solutions from Benbecula to the landmass, but a solution operated by Caledonian MacBrayne from Lochboisdale on South Uist provides a five-hour going across to Oban on the mainland, whilst one more solution from Lochmaddy on North Uist supplies a two-hour crossing to Uig on the Inner Hebridean island of Skye, as well as for this reason to the landmass by means of the Skye Bridge. Ferry services from the islands of Berneray (linked by embankment to North Uist) as well as Eriskay (connected to South Uist) connect to the other Outer Hebridean islands of Harris and Barra respectively. There is a thick collection of lochs across virtually the entire island, as well as mostly all of the island is listed below 20 metres in altitude.
